Life coach and best-selling author Victoria Price has it all: a successful career, fabulous friends, a fantastic penthouse in Manhattan. What she doesn’t have—and doesn’t want—is a husband. Fifteen years ago her high school flame broke her heart so badly she swore she’d never love again. Now she makes millions teaching other women how to be just like her: a ruthless bitch.
Drop-dead sexy restauranteur and infamous playboy Parker Maxwell has only three rules for the women he dates: no questions about his past, no expectations for the future, and no spending the night. When he meets Victoria, however, he’s willing to break his own rules if it means sating the explosive desire she arouses in him. What he doesn’t know is that the alluring Victoria Price used to be the mousy Isabel Diaz, the girl he deflowered and dumped long ago.
Presented with a perfect opportunity for revenge, Victoria decides the game is on. But when her connection with Parker proves more than just skin deep, she has to make a choice: continue with her plan for payback, or risk her career, her reputation, and her heart by taking a second chance on love?
(I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review)
This is a battle of sexes with a twist. When I read the first chapter I thought to myself. ‘UGH! A book about major feminism to the extreme.’ Don’t get me wrong, I am all about us women getting our voices heard and being treated as more than just iron toting baby makers. Sometimes though…. just sometimes… ladies take it to a major extreme.
I read on, the story unfolded and I was pleasantly surprised at how deep this book went. There are plenty moments where the main characters were just being petty, but surrounding that are characters who have a passed through some major $h!t. Characters who are torn, hurting and dealing with it the best way they know how.
Victoria Price is a grade A blazing bitch. She knows it. She loves it. She sells it on the black market. Her heart is so far in her cocoon of protection that she refuses to let a man get close to her in any emotional capacity. She has her reasons. She knows her pain and lives with it. She knows who is the cause of who she is now. She’s perfectly content to live this emotion ridden life.
Enter restaurant entrepreneur Parker Maxwell. He’s handsome, unattached and as emotionally drained as Victoria. Except he isn’t belligerent in the slightest. He’s detached emotionally. He has his pain. He knows it. He lives it.
A dinner date with a friend launches a string of events that unravels them both.
I did not like Victoria in the beginning. She was such a raging bitch. Manipulative, snooty with a hefty bag of arrogance. Throughout the beginning of the story I kept saying “THIS BITCH….”
She was out for blood, out for revenge. She just oozed bitch. While I completely understood her need for vengeance, it was really annoying in the beginning. If it wasn’t for the flashbacks to her former life or how her walls started to crumble throughout the book I wouldn’t have finished it. Through seeing her journey, you really feel for her. I know I did. The things she had to endure…. I could only imagine.
I’m so glad I finished it. The book had a deep seated past that was so emotionally charged when it was finally revealed. These two were in for a ride the second she entered the restaurant. They couldn’t be farther from each other in terms of end goals for their relationship. They both knew that they were playing some kind of game. Yet their pride wouldn’t let them stop. The back and forth was intense.
The secondary characters were great as well, especially Victoria’s assistant. She was quirky, child-like yet sharp as a tack.
I recommend this book for those who are hurting. Those who cannot let go of their hurt. Those who have loved and lost, this book is for you.
